I studied for years under Irene Maddox who was a prominent flute player and teacher in Charlotte, NC until she passed away in 1995. She was the principal flutist with the Charlotte Symphony for many years and co-founder of the Charlotte Flute Choir. She also played with the Charlotte Opera and Pops. This is an article about a tribute to Irene Maddox after her death at age 60.

  1. I don't know if this will ever be seen, but I, too studied with Irene for several years in my youth - approximately 1977 to 1983. I still play the flute on occasion, but have lost the level of proficiency she helped me obtain. I still enjoy playing and regret that I never shared with her my appreciation for her influence in my life.
